  + stars: | 2023-10-23 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
The 23-year-old Briton has finished runner-up five times this year and six times in a Formula One career that remains without a victory. Australian rookie team mate Oscar Piastri won the sprint at Lusail and was second in the main race. "I think Qatar was our best chance of winning a race. And I missed out on that one," Norris told reporters. "We can look decent, but I think realistically we're not at that level as a general package with these guys.

Sargeant was classified 10th at Austin's Circuit of the Americas after Mercedes' Hamilton was stripped of second place and Ferrari's Leclerc lost his sixth place when their cars failed post-race checks. The last U.S. driver before the 22-year-old Florida native to score in a grand prix was Michael Andretti with McLaren in 1993. "It’s amazing to score my first point in F1 on home turf after the challenging weekend I’ve had," said Sargeant, who failed to finish the previous race in Qatar after suffering exhaustion in the heat. The team are seventh out of 10 in the constructors' standings, 10 points clear of eighth-placed Alfa Romeo with four races remaining. Australian Daniel Ricciardo, returning from injury at AlphaTauri, is now the only driver on the starting grid yet to score this season.

Mercedes had brought an upgraded car to Texas and Hamilton, whose team mate George Russell moved up to fifth, had looked more competitive. "We can take a lot of positives from the car performance today," said Wolff. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc took third after being passed by Hamilton at the start of a race that paid points to the top eight finishers. The main event at the Texas track is on Sunday with Leclerc starting on pole position and Verstappen chasing his 50th grand prix win from sixth on the grid. Dominant Red Bull and Verstappen have already secured both the constructors' and drivers' world championships with a fistful of races to spare. In the early laps, Verstappen and Hamilton ran close enough for the Briton to have DRS (drag reduction) but then the Red Bull pulled away.

Bagnaia baffled after throwing away another 25 points
  + stars: | 2023-04-16 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
AUSTIN, Texas, April 16 (Reuters) - MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia was baffled and angry after throwing away 25 points by crashing out of Sunday's Grand Prix of the Americas while leading from pole position. "For the second weekend in a row I don't know (how it happened)," Bagnaia, who won the Saturday sprint but is now 11 points behind Bezzecchi after three rounds, told BT Sport. I did many, many laps this weekend without having any issues, and then in the race just controlling, I crashed." Bagnaia said something different had happened on the bike compared to two weeks ago in Argentina, when he had pushed perhaps too hard and crashed out of second place. "It's true that our bike is so fast, so competitive, but then if you crash and you don't know why it doesn't help anything," he added.
Leclerc to drop 10 places on U.S. GP starting grid
  + stars: | 2022-10-22 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Ferrari's Charles Leclerc will take a 10-place grid drop for Sunday's U.S. Grand Prix due to engine and turbocharger changes, dealing a blow to his team's hopes of denying Red Bull the Formula One constructors' title for another week. Ferrari need to score 19 points more than Red Bull at Austin's Circuit of the Americas to keep the constructors' title battle alive until next weekend's race in Mexico City. Leclerc is battling Red Bull's Sergio Perez for second place overall and is one point behind the Mexican, who incurred a five-place grid drop on Friday. The sport's governing FIA said Leclerc had triggered the drop by taking a sixth internal combustion engine and turbocharger for final practice.
